These were a few of the insects that I found on a recent visit to Hoffman Hills Recreation Area.

Summer Azure

Golden Backed Snipe Fly

Darner

Crescent

This was the first doe and fawn that we saw this spring. I noticed a White-tailed deer out in the prairie and it didn’t appear to be eating. The behavior was one I had seen before and that was licking a fawn. I watched for quite a while before the fawn emerged from in back of the doe.

I happened to look out the window and noticed something going on down the driveway. A closer look revealed a couple of the neighbors cats mating. We keep seeing the female around but no kittens yet.

I’ve seen a number of Crescent Butterflies around the farm.

Flower Fly

Dusty Stink Bug

The Ox-eyed Daisies have been been blooming on the farm.

Various grasses have been blooming around the farm.

The great thing about clover is that it blooms spring through fall if you cut it.

We were driving down to Gilbert Creek Wildlife Area and spotted a pair of Sandhill Cranes and two colts.

A few days ago a pair of Eastern Bluebirds built a nest in one of my bluebird houses. The female did all of the work. Yesterday I noticed that the male bluebird was coming out of the house with a single piece of grass. Apparently something wasn’t quite right with the nest. However, after leaving the house he didn’t seem to know what he should do with the grass.
