On a rainy day we drove over to Hyde’s Mill to take some fall photographs. Most of the fall colors were gone but grasses around the mill were very colorful.

A number of years ago I took photographs of the Millstones that were displayed by the mill. The last few times I was at the mill they were no longer displayed. I noticed they are once again on display in front of an old building.

Hyde's Mill

I had visited Hyde’s Mill last spring and when I was in the area. This fall I made a second visit to see if I could get some fall color shots. Unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of fall color. The strong winds we had this fall had taken down most of the leaves.

Hyde's Mill Dam

There was another photographer there when I arrived and he was still working when I left. Apparently I take photographs like I play golf moving very quickly to get  the shots I want.

Hyde's Mill Millstones

In my spring post I mentioned that It looked like the mill was for sale. This time it was very clear that it was for sale. There were no trespassing signs all around and it appeared that the house above the mill was also for sale. I would think this would be a tough sell because of the mill dam which would come with some liability attached to it.

Hyde's Mill

This past week my wife had a meeting in Wisconsin Dells so I rode along and while she was at the meeting I drove out to Hyde’s Mill to take some photos. I had lived in Mazomanie, Wisconsin until I graduated from college and had never heard of Hyde’s Mill. I happened to be looking at mill photos on the Capture Wisconsin website and noticed a photo of the mill. After some research on the internet I discovered its location. It is located a few miles from Arena Wisconsin.

The day was not the best. It was very cold, windy and overcast so I didn’t have high expectations for a good shoot. In addition, it was still very brown with spring getting a slow start. However, I was interested in visiting the mill and checking out the location for the future should I be in the area.

The mill itself is not all that large. It is located on private property with lots of no trespass signs. It also looks to be for sale if anyone is interested in a mill. There are opportunities for photography along the road. There is a small pull off so a few cars can park. In addition to the mill there is a nice display of millstones as well as some milling machinery on the site.
