I was having lunch yesterday when I happened to look over at my bird feeder. Much to my amazement I saw a Red-headed Woodpecker at the suet feeder. This is the first Red-headed Woodpecker I’ve seen on the farm in 45 years.
He was at the suet feeder but there was no suit in the feeder. I noticed that he would fly over to the sunflower seeds and get a seed then bring it back and smash it on the suit feeder. I noticed several other woodpeckers do the same thing. Better they are doing it on the suet feeder than on my roof.
He hung around for about 15 minutes before taking off.
