Once again we were in Duluth, Minnesota for the 4th of July fireworks. We have cycled around Duluth the last 4 years. We’ve shot in 4 different locations. This year we were back where we started, shooting off our balcony.

Earlier this week we were in Duluth, Minnesota for the annual 4th of July fireworks. This year we watched from near the DECC.

More photos from this years fireworks can be found on my webpage.

Duluth, Minnesota has some great firework and in an beautiful setting. If you are in the area this 4th of July try and take them in.

My first year of watching the Duluth Fireworks was from our balcony on Michigan Street. All of the shots were close-ups of the explosions.

The second year we walked down to the North Breakwater and photographed them with the Lift Bridge in the background.

Last year we walked down to Leif Erickson Park and watched them from the shoreline of Lake Superior.

This is the third year I’ve photographed the 4th of July fireworks in Duluth. The first year I shot from our condo balcony. Last year I shot from the South Breakwater down in Canal Park. This year I shot from the lake front on the east end of Leif Erikson Park. I found a nice rock to sit on with tripod partly in the lake.

Duluth-Fireworks-14-7-_0833I used a Nikon D7100 with a Tamron 28-300mm lens which gave me enough range to shoot from wide angle to close-ups. Duluth-Fireworks-14-7-_0805

On the last day that the Bentleyville Tour of Lights is open they have a fireworks. This year the Tour of Lights remained open into January because December had been so cold that they were forced to close a number of times. We happened to be in Duluth this past week when the fireworks were being held. It was a very cold night so we drove the car down. A lot of other folks had the same idea so we just made it into the parking lot when the fireworks started.

This is the second year in a row that I watched the fireworks in Duluth, Minnesota. Last year I photographed them from my condo balcony. This year I decided to try a different location. After looking at a number of options I finally decided to try photographing from the North Breakwater Light pier. I didn’t know what to expect because I wasn’t sure where the fireworks would take place but I was hoping to get the Duluth Lift Bridge in the foreground. As I walked down the lakewalk I was a little concerned that it would be too crowed for photography. Fortunately there were not many people out on the pier and many of those who were around headed toward the lift bridge before the fireworks started.

My wife and I recently purchased a condo in downtown Duluth, Minnesota. Our goal was to move north when we retire because we both love cold weather and the winter season. With the temperatures hovering around 100 degrees this past week we decided to head to Duluth where the temperatures were in the high 60’s and low 70’s. Since it was the 4th of July we were able to watch the fireworks from our deck. This was my first time trying to shoot fireworks so I was fairly happy with the results. Normally I wouldn’t walk across the street to see fireworks and as It turned out I just had to walk out to the deck.
