My wife and I had stopped at the Crex Meadows visitors center last week. I was out walking around the wildflower garden attempting to identify some wildflowers. My wife had gone into the center. She came back out with one of the staff who wanted to show us the Dogbane Beetle that was feeding out in the wildflower garden.

The dogbane leaf beetle has a iridescence color that changes as the insect changes position or we change position looking at it. It mainly feeds on prairie plants such as milkweeds , Indian hemp, and dogbane.

I managed a few shots of them. Two of the beetles were mating.
